In-person workshop in Sint Eustatius on utility-scale renewable energy for islands grids
-
Organized by the GO team with the consortium in charge of the GO Energy Transition Community, a workshop is being organized from October 28 to 31, 2025 in Sint Eustatius, dedicated to the integration of large-scale renewable energies into isolated grids in island territories.
-
The aim of this meeting between the participants in this workshop - from local public administrations and/or electricity utility operators - is to strengthen the capacities of Overseas Countries and Territories by deepening technical knowledge on the characteristics, opportunities and limitations of the main renewable energy sources.
-
The social and environmental impacts associated with the deployment of wind or solar infrastructure, as well as the public policies that support their development, will also be analyzed and discussed, so that each workshop participant can equip themselves with an exploitable knowledge base of the subject. Particular attention will also be paid to the technical challenges of integrating these sources into isolated grids, including grid management, energy storage systems and inverter technologies. Peer-to-peer exchanges will provide an opportunity to capitalize on feedback and best practices implemented in different territories.
-
The four-day program includes plenary sessions, interactive discussions, as well as technical site visits to the Sint Eustatius solar photovoltaic power plant, and a local power grid control center, which will show workshop participants in concrete terms what solutions already exist in the island context.
