• The Green Overseas (GO) Program, is organizing a regional workshop in French Polynesia from December 1 to 5, 2025, dedicated to the resilience of food systems to the impacts of climate change. Twenty-two EU and UK Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs) will be present at the Hilton Papeete to take part in the event.

  • Building food systems resilient to climate change

    Climate change is exerting increasing pressure on island territories: declining agricultural productivity, coastal erosion, pressure on fishery resources, disruption of supply chains. Faced with these challenges, the OCTs are developing local, innovative solutions, often based on traditional knowledge.

    This workshop, which brings together OCT government representatives, technical experts and Polynesian players involved in agricultural, fisheries and environmental transitions, aims to highlight these initiatives, strengthen local capacities and encourage exchange between territories.

  • Strengthening food autonomy and resilience in the OCT

    Throughout the week, participants will address:

  • - the impacts of climate change on agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture;
    - nature-based solutions and traditional knowledge;
    - agro-ecological and climate-smart practices;
    - climate modeling and adaptation policies ;
    - product processing, the circular economy and strategies for reducing import dependency and boosting food autonomy.

    .

  • Two days of field visits will be organized in Tahiti and Moorea, allowing OCT delegations to discover local initiatives: agroecological farms, rahui (regulated fishing zones), processing facilities, agricultural school farms and other projects led by Polynesian actors.

    A workshop in continuity with GO Program actions in French Polynesia

    The GO Program already supports several key actions in the territory, including a 30-year projection study of coastline evolution in several Tuamotu atolls and at Pointe Vénus, carried out via the "GO Facility". This work enables us to anticipate coastal erosion, identify the areas most at risk and support local authorities in planning adaptation solutions. It illustrates the GO Program's commitment to strengthening the resilience of island territories through scientific tools and approaches co-constructed with local stakeholders.

    Combined expertise to support local action

    Organized in collaboration with the consortium in charge of the GO Climate Change Resilience community - made up of Ramboll and BRL Ingénierie - the workshop mobilizes international and local experts to provide concrete technical support to the OCTs.

    Ahab Charles Webster Downer, GO Program Director, points out:
    "The OCTs are on the front line when it comes to the impacts of climate change. Despite their great capacity to adapt, they need reinforced technical and institutional support to adapt their food systems. Program GO is delighted to bring together committed players in French Polynesia to share concrete solutions, based on nature, local knowledge and innovation."

  • Follow the workshop day by day

    The progress of the workshop will be followed daily on Programme GO's social networks.
    Each day, a summary post will feature highlights, field visits, panels, shared solutions and participant testimonials.
