• Context

In this isolated sub-Antarctic environment, energy supply relies mainly on imported fossil fuels. Logistical constraints, high costs and the need to preserve an exceptionally valuable ecosystem make the energy transition particularly strategic.

  • Stakes and objectives

Evaluate renewable solutions adapted to local climatic conditions and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while guaranteeing continuity of energy supply.

  • Stakeholders

Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.

    Facility description

The Facility analyzes the potential of solar and battery storage systems in major populated sites. Current and future energy needs are studied, and different scenarios are compared to identify the most reliable and efficient configurations.

Environmental impacts are integrated into the analysis to ensure that the solutions selected are compatible with the protection of the region's biodiversity. This approach supports a gradual and responsible energy transition.

    Deliverables

    • Technical feasibility study of renewable solutions
    • Analysis of current and future energy demand
    • Comparison of technical and financial scenarios
    • Environmental impact assessment
    • Roadmap for implementing the energy transition
