Eco-construction development support program
-
Context
The Service Territorial de l'Environnement des Iles de Wallis-et-Futuna carries the "Programme d'appui au développement de l'écoconstruction à Wallis-et-Futuna", as part of the "Facilité GO", which is the 1st Facilité du Programme GO to have been launched.
The Territory of the Wallis and Futuna Islands is fully committed to a sustainable development approach. Tariff equalization was introduced in return for the Territory's commitments to develop renewable energies as part of the Pluriannual Energy Program. To meet these commitments, the Territory intends to work both on the development of renewable energies but also on the reduction of the Territory's energy consumption.
-
Stakes & objectives
To achieve this, action is needed to develop eco-building since a significant proportion of electric energy consumption is linked to air conditioning in homes, businesses and public buildings and to bad habits among users. The Territoire has already undertaken actions aimed at improving the energy performance of buildings, such as the realisation of an energy audit of the main public buildings in 2022. The actions to be taken in this area are all the more important as the Territoire is currently undertaking major construction work on both islands.

Stakeholders involved
In this particularly remote territory, which is heavily dependent on imports, the development of eco-construction, including eco-renovation, is an important priority on which local authorities agree to reduce the environmental impact of buildings and increase the Territory's energy autonomy. The GO Facility supported by the Territory aims to contribute to the development of eco-construction in Wallis and Futuna, and in particular to improve the energy and environmental performance of buildings, especially those financed by public funds.
Facility description
The expected results of this GO Facility are:
- Awareness-raising tools in favor of eco-construction specific to Wallis and Futuna are produced and appropriated by the Territory's stakeholders.
- Energy performance and bioclimatism criteria for the construction and renovation of buildings financed by public funds in Wallis and Futuna are defined and appropriated by the Territory's actors.
- Eco-renovation projects for two public buildings in Wallis and Futuna, with ambitious eco-construction objectives and likely to serve as an example for the Territory, are drawn up.
