Monitoring the coastline in the Sparse Islands
-
Context
The territories of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands are exposed to rising sea levels and changing coastal dynamics. Despite their isolation, these territories are experiencing the global effects of climate change.
-
Stakes and objectives
Improve scientific knowledge of coastline evolution in order to adapt territorial management and strengthen resilience in the face of erosion and submersion risks.
-
Stakeholders
TAAF administration, scientific partners.
Facility description
The Facility enables the collection and analysis of data from satellite images, topographic surveys and field observations.
Prospective scenarios are developed to anticipate the future impacts of climate change on the coastline. The results support long-term planning and strategic decision-making.

Expected deliverables
- Consolidated database on coastline evolution
- Updated coastline maps
- Prospective evolution scenarios incorporating climate projections
- Coastal management and adaptation recommendations
