•           The economy of Saint Helena, which is primarily based on agriculture, fishing, and a growing tourism sector, is engaged in a gradual development trajectory, supported by external assistance that contributes to strengthening its local capacities.

  •           However, the St Helena government is working to improve public services on the island, in particular by partnering with Connect Saint Helena Ltd (CSH) to reform regulations in the energy sector and offer the island's inhabitants a living environment better adapted to contemporary energy challenges. The aim of the facility is to establish a sustainable and efficient energy policy, with a target of 80% electricity from renewable energy by 2027/2028.

  •           This GO Facility therefore includes a review of existing legislation, which should incorporate a new regulatory framework inspired by global best practice; updating the role of the regulator to ensure effective oversight of the sector; and building local capacity through training stakeholders in the principles of energy regulation - all to promote clean, affordable electricity, to enable the island of St Helena to access an effectively managed sustainable energy supply.
