• Context

    The Government of Aruba wishes to reduce carbon emissions related to transportation and the fuel expenditure of its automotive fleet. The electrification of transport is a key lever for the transition to renewable energy and for sustainable economic development.

  • This initiative is part of the national goal of achieving 15% electric vehicles in the private car fleet by 2030.

    Challenges & objectives
    The main objective is to effectively reduce carbon emissions and the fuel costs of the government fleet. The project also aims to make the Government of Aruba a model of sustainable mobility and environmental responsibility, while promoting a responsible management of battery-related waste from electric vehicles.

  • Facility description
    The facility includes the development of a comprehensive transition plan towards the electrification of the government fleet as well as the preparation of a dedicated public procurement policy. A detailed analysis of the current fleet was carried out, accompanied by a stakeholder analysis. The project includes the implementation of a pilot project in two departments (one administrative unit and one public works unit) to assess the use of electric vehicles and analyze the total cost of ownership (TCO). The facility also provides for the development of a waste management plan for lithium batteries.
